I NEVER lifted weights.

One might say I was afraid or even allergic to the weight room. ;P
The huffing, puffing, screaming etc that would frequently come from that area of the gym with beefy dudes throwing back protein by the gallon was not exactly appealing to me. (No offense if that's you, just didn't fit when all I've grown up knowing was running) Not to mention, I was one of "those girls" who said confidently "weights make girls bulky".

Oh silly me.
I have a flair for confidence even when I have no clue what I'm talking about ;)

Good thing I've also been blessed with a teachable spirit to learn the errors of my ways.

In January, I embarked on my FIRST lifting adventure! I have done some dumbbell style workouts before, but this would be my first time actually focusing on building muscle! I was SO excited and a little nervous. How could I not be?! I mean would I turn into the hulk?? These were legit questions!! But it was time to put my "claims" about weights to the test, and overcome those fears of muscle.

For 60 days I committed to a weight lifting + nutrition program called The Master's Hammer and Chisel. Today, I'm sharing allllll those juicy details about the program and my transformation story following it :)

What is The Master's Hammer and Chisel? 

  • The program is a resistance-training system that includes all three phases of muscle sculpting—known as SSP Training (stabilization, strength, power)— to rapidly build, chisel, and refine a masterpiece physique in just 60 days. 
  • Personal Review: I had power lifting days with cleans, jerks, squats. But I also had agility days using all body weight concentrated on building my speed and balance! I loved the diversity of the lifting and focus of the SSP Training. My body was constantly being challenged with the various styles of workouts.

Who is it for?

  • Men and women looking for a comprehensive resistance-training or muscle-sculpting program.
  • You don't have to be an experienced weight lifter, but it is a more advanced program. I personally suggest it for clients who are already living an active lifestyle with goals to lean out, sculpt, maintain or build muscle. 
  • It also comes with a super simple, flexible nutrition program. 
  • It does have a modifier built in as well- which I definitely needed to use for a few moves at the beginning- no shame here! 
  • Personal Review: I would suggest starting this program if you have time to commit to it. The length of a program lasted anywhere from 35-45 minutes.

Who are the Trainers?

  • Co-creator Sagi Kalev was crowned Mr. Israel–twice–and is a Master Professional Personal Trainer, IFBB Pro, member of the IFBB Propta Hall of Fame, Certified Nutrition Specialist, and Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist. 
  • Co-creator Autumn Calabrese is a celebrity trainer, best-selling author, and working mom who has held certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Fitness Professionals & Associates (AFPA), and has competed at the national level in various bikini competitions. 
  • Personal Review: I think it's safe to say they're experts in their field ;)

What equipment requirements are there?

  • A few dumbbells of various weights appropriate to your strength and fitness level. 
  • A bench or stability ball. 
  • A chin-up bar or a resistance band and a door attachment. 
  • Personal Review: I used this program at my local gym by streaming the workouts from my phone using my Beachbody on Demand account! There are also worksheets you can print out and bring to a gym. 

How did I see my body transform through this program? **Personal Review:**
  • I saw my strength significantly increase by the end of the program. I went from using 4 kg dumbbells to using 10 kg dumbbells. 
  • I saw my tummy tone, and flatten. 
  • I saw my quads, my "saddlebag" leg area, and my booty shape and tighten. 
  • I saw my body become more defined, and my balance increase! 
  • I was NOT agile at all the first time I did my "agility workout" and saw a huge increase at speed and balance in this particular workout by the end. 
  • My sugar cravings dramatically decreased with the daily consumption of Shakeology! 
  • I built muscle!!!!!! WITHOUT getting bulky! 

Do I recommend this program? **Personal Review:**
  • ABSOLUTELY!!! This is by far my favorite program that Beachbody has put together, (although I will say that the debut of Country Heat by Autumn Calabrese this summer may change some things!!
